Module 9

This is hard to decide. I know that every child should have a good education, regardless of how much their parents make - but this raises some other questions and problems. Resources should be available for students, but all of this costs. Where does the money come from? Who pays for it? How is it determined that a student needs financial help? Where is the line drawn? I

Judge Manning had a tough case, but I agree with the fact that he ruled on the side of the at-risk children. I also like how he suggested that the locals may be at fault too.

I wish I could have seen him talk at UNCP. I love the quote, when he said "It's not about the buildings. It's about delivering sound basic education to kids."

I think there is so much more behind the sceans that needs to be considered. I'd love to just say, "Everyone needs a good education. And they will have that right" but it's not that easy.

  1. So, is your solution to charge parents to send their children to public schools? If all children are entitled to a free public education shouldn't the schools have the money to adequately educate them?

  2. I agree students do deserve a solid education, however someone has to pay for that education. The state should put more of our tax dollars into education instead of wasting it. Students can not afford to lose out on a well rounded education.

  3. Great statement! I just wanted to say since we are both teachers, I am sure that you have seen many teachers are do not care for their jobs and want a paycheck. Children do deserve to have good sound quality education but some teachers are not putting forth the effort. I hate to see a child not getting the best education possible because of the teacher not wanting to be there for the "right" reason.

  4. Amanda, no. I'm just saying that parents should pay what they can - and how do you determine when a parent can't pay? I don't have the answers, but it's not on any one person to solve this. You can't expect all parents to afford school, but who has to make up the diffrence? Taxs? Grants? Loans? The government is so much in dept anyway... I don't have an answer, the schools should have the money. But it doesn't grow on trees. :)

  5. You are right, this is a hard problem to solve and money doesn't grow on trees! Unfortunately some parents don't even have enough money to feed their children. Others spend all of their money on themselves and they don't care enough about their children's education. If they don't care, who should? We should, the educators (and the government too!!)
